Cuiabá and Dourados intensify mosquito control, reducing dengue and chikungunya cases

The municipal health authority in Cuiabá inspected 536,994 dwellings, treated 56,739 properties and 63,496 water containers, and eliminated 16,065 potential mosquito breeding sites. Reported dengue notifications fell to 1,151 (501 confirmed) with a weekly average of about 50 cases, six new cases in the 23rd epidemiological week and one confirmed death. Chikungunya notifications dropped to 113 cases (110 confirmed) and no new cases have been reported for three weeks; zika remained low with eight notifications. The city’s health secretary, Deisi Bocalon, said: “Os números mostram que estamos no caminho certo. O trabalho diário das nossas equipes, com visitas domiciliares, eliminação de criadouros e orientação à população, tem contribuído para reduzir a circulação das arboviroses em Cuiabá.” The free Qdenga dengue vaccine is available for children and adolescents aged 10‑14.

In Dourados, the Centre for Zoonoses Control is maintaining 1,008 larvicide‑disseminating stations (EDLs) placed in homes across multiple neighbourhoods. Over 500 traps have already received their first maintenance, and agents inspected 1,362 properties, finding nine Aedes aegypti foci. Additional actions included spraying 146 blocks with larvicide, issuing 115 fines and generating 205 notifications. The effort aims to curb the spread of dengue, chikungunya, and Zika in the municipality.
