Cuiabá authorities seize motorcycles in noise pollution crackdown

Authorities in Cuiabá conducted ‘Operação Raio de Ordem’ to combat noise pollution and traffic irregularities. The operation resulted in the seizure of seven motorcycles and the issuance of fines totaling R$ 815.38 per vehicle.

The enforcement action utilized sound level meters to identify motorcycles with tampered exhausts. Beyond noise violations, inspectors identified several other infractions, including expired licensing, lack of driver's licenses, illegible license plates, and worn tires. The operation was prompted by public complaints regarding excessive noise affecting residents, including the sick and neurodivergent children.

This enforcement marks the first practical application of a new municipal law in Cuiabá specifically designed to control noise levels. The legislation establishes clear methodologies for sound measurement, correct distances for testing, and specific decibel limits for vehicles.
