Cuiabá mayor spearheads waste‑collection, tree‑planting and tourism exchange

The Municipal Urban Cleaning Agency (Emlur) organized a "Trilha de Catação" on June 13 at the Santuário do Cuiá, distributing bags and collecting litter with children, teenagers and community volunteers. The event, part of a month‑long environmental‑awareness programme, also featured a musical group that crafts instruments from recycled materials.

Mayor Abilio Brunini also took part in the "Tia Nair Mais Verde" project at Parque Tia Nair, where municipal staff and volunteers planted dozens of tree saplings to increase shade and improve thermal comfort for residents.

Later that day the mayor welcomed Campos do Jordão’s mayor, Carlos Eduardo Pereira da Silva, for an institutional visit. The two officials exchanged experiences on tourism promotion, solid‑waste management and selective collection, discussing possible adaptations of Campos do Jordão’s practices for Cuiabá.

Together the actions illustrate the city’s coordinated push for urban sustainability, community engagement and inter‑municipal cooperation.
