Cuiabá free transit policy benefits 1.1 million passengers

Cuiabá’s ‘Tarifa Zero’ public transportation policy has benefited over 1.1 million passengers since its implementation on April 29 of last year. Established under Law No. 7.248, the initiative provides free transit to the public on Sundays and specific holidays.

The municipal government has invested R$ 7,090,000.00 to sustain the program, which covers more than 90 lines operated by 360 vehicles within the city. The policy aims to enhance urban mobility and social inclusion by facilitating access to services, commerce, and leisure for workers, students, and families.

Francyanne Lacerda, the Municipal Secretary of Urban Mobility and Public Security, noted that the measure allows citizens to better utilize their free time and visit local tourist and cultural sites. The free fare is applicable exclusively to municipal public transport within Cuiabá.
