Cuiabá inaugurates Saint John Paul II sculpture

Cuiabá has inaugurated a new sculpture of Saint John Paul II at the Cruz do Papa to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Pope's visit to the city in 1991.

Created by Portuguese artist Francisco Charneca, the work was unveiled during a religious and cultural ceremony that included a Holy Mass and a musical performance by Catholic singer Celina Borges. The Cuiabá City Hall supported the event by providing cleaning, maintenance, and lighting improvements to the area.

Mayor Abilio Brunini emphasized that the initiative aims to preserve the historical memory of the pontiff's visit and to develop the site as a significant destination for religious tourism. Father Marcos Ferrucci, rector of the Saint John Paul II Eucharistic Sanctuary, noted the emotional importance of the milestone for the local Catholic community.
