Cuiabá expands health services, adds 108 surgical kits and reaches 3.6 million attendances

The municipality of Cuiabá reinforced its emergency units by delivering 108 stainless‑steel surgical kits, worth R$ 23,220, to four UPAs and the Policlínica Pedra 90, enabling immediate low‑complexity procedures such as sutures, cyst removal and abscess drainage. The city’s health network reported more than 3.6 million patient attendances in the past year and a half, driven by new Family Health Units in Jardim Passaredo, Pedregal and Praeiro, the revitalised USF Areão, and the opening of two CAPS mental‑health centers. Additional milestones include the first national Center for Obesity Treatment, the acquisition of a 3‑Tesla MRI scanner for Hospital São Benedito, and the re‑introduction of 150 estesiometer kits for leprosy diagnosis. These actions cut the SUS waiting list by over 100 000 cases, reducing pending consultations, exams and surgeries from 421,981 to 320,679. Secretary of Secondary Care Attention Odair Mendonça highlighted that the kits and infrastructure upgrades improve response speed, safety and overall quality of care for Cuiabá’s residents.
