Cuiabá health system upgrades

In early August 2026, Cuiabá’s emergency care network reported a record six consecutive days with no patients waiting in medication rooms at its four UPAs, a result of daily bed‑occupancy monitoring and coordinated transfers with municipal hospitals. During the same period, the city’s epidemiological bulletin showed a 21.5 % drop in weekly dengue cases, a 98.8 % fall in chikungunya notifications and very low Zika activity, attributed to intensified vector‑control inspections of more than 673,000 properties and community campaigns.

Within days, municipal authorities announced further expansions: 108 stainless‑steel surgical kits were delivered to the UPAs and the Policlínica Pedra 90 to enable low‑complexity procedures; new Family Health Units opened in Jardim Passaredo, Pedregal and Praeiro, alongside a revitalised USF Areão and two CAPS mental‑health centers. Additional milestones included Brazil’s first national Center for Obesity Treatment, a 3‑Tesla MRI scanner for Hospital São Benedito, and the re‑introduction of 150 estesiometer kits for leprosy diagnosis. These measures helped cut the SUS waiting list by over 100 000 cases, reducing pending consultations, exams and surgeries from 421 981 to 320 679, and pushed total patient attendances to more than 3.6 million in the past 18 months, underscoring a sustained push to strengthen emergency and primary‑care services in the city.
