Cuiabá sees 89% drop in Covid‑19 cases as influenza infections more than double

The Municipal Health Secretariat of Cuiabá released an epidemiological bulletin for 4 January‑30 May 2026 showing an 89.16% reduction in reported Covid‑19 cases compared with the same period in 2025. Confirmed infections fell from 1,034 to 112, with four Covid‑19 deaths recorded, only one in the city itself.

At the same time, the bulletin documented a sharp rise in Influenza A and B. Among Cuiabá residents, influenza notifications increased from 752 to 1,588 – a 111.17% jump – and total city‑wide cases reached 2,050 when patients from neighbouring municipalities are included. Children aged 0‑6 accounted for the majority of cases (832). Influenza caused 15 deaths in Cuiabá, 14 of which were among people aged 60 years or older. Hospitalisations for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) totaled 1,134, with 308 linked to influenza and 20 influenza‑related deaths.

The health department urged vaccination against flu, noting that 72 basic health units are equipped to immunise priority groups such as young children, seniors, pregnant women, health workers, teachers, indigenous peoples and other vulnerable populations.
