Cuiabá waste collection resumes after worker mobilization

Waste collection services in Cuiabá have resumed following a mobilization by workers from Locar Saneamento Ambiental, the company contracted by the municipality. On Monday, the city deployed 31 trucks to collect approximately 550 tons of waste across various neighborhoods, rural communities, and districts.

The labor movement was driven by several grievances, including allegations of labor rights violations, excessive overtime, and inadequate staffing. Workers reported that compacting trucks were operating with only two staff members instead of the required three, leading to physical strain. Additionally, the group demanded action against alleged moral and racial harassment by company supervisors, the implementation of agreed-upon salary increases, and the regularization of FGTS and social security deposits.

Locar Saneamento Ambiental stated they were surprised by the mobilization and noted that the lawyers presenting demands do not officially represent the workers' union. Meanwhile, the municipal cleaning agency, Limpurb, has notified the company to provide documentation proving compliance with its contract. The city stated it may take administrative measures if irregularities are identified.
