Culiacán and Escuinapa see spate of murders in Sinaloa

On the early morning of August 2, 2026, a 32‑year‑old man identified as Antonio “N” was stabbed to death in the Alturas del Sur neighborhood of Culiacán. The attack left him with fatal wounds to the chest and neck near the intersection of Cima de los Olivares and Monte Aneto. Mexican Army units secured the scene and investigators from the state prosecutor’s office detained a suspect on Calzada Heroico shortly thereafter.

Within the same 48‑hour period, three additional killings were reported in the community of Tecualilla, Escuinapa municipality. A 50‑year‑old resident, Jorge Adrián “N”, was shot multiple times while walking home, and a separate male victim was found decapitated with an intimidating banner left at the site. Hours later, the body of a young woman was discovered near the Mazatlán‑Tepic highway. Federal and state security forces, including the National Guard and state police, responded to each incident, but the perpetrators escaped.

The incidents highlight a surge of violent crime in Sinaloa despite the presence of federal and state security forces.
