Culiacán City Hall conducts earthquake drill for 1,200 people
More than 1,200 employees and citizens participated in an earthquake drill at the Culiacán City Hall and other municipal buildings on September 18, 2026. The exercise, organized by the Culiacán Civil Protection coordination, was conducted to strengthen prevention culture and emergency response protocols.
The drill simulated a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, a scenario capable of causing structural damage and human casualties. During the exercise, participants evacuated the buildings in approximately six minutes. The simulation also included a medical response component, involving the hypothetical treatment and transport of two injured individuals to test the coordination of emergency services.
Civil Protection coordinator Jesús Bill Mendoza Ontiveros noted that while the results were favorable, the exercise highlighted areas for improvement regarding response times and the need for more frequent drills to maintain updated safety procedures.
