Cultural exhibitions in Argentina showcase textile art and sewing history

The Centro Cultural, Social y Político Nueva Argentina has inaugurated the exhibition ‘La máquina y yo’ (The Machine and I). Curated by Domingo Mateo Vilte, the display features sewing machines from various eras, exploring the human connection to the tool and promoting free design and technical maintenance. The exhibition includes contributions from various seamstresses and designers and aims to revalue the craft by connecting domestic utility with professional opportunities.

In addition to the exhibition, a sewing machine maintenance workshop will be held, led by Vilte. The training focuses on extending machine lifespan, troubleshooting errors, and mastering various sewing functions.

Separately, textile designer Leonardo Lempel has introduced ‘Konflicto’, an exhibition marking his transition from fashion design to textile art. The works, which Lempel describes as moving ‘from the body to the wall’, incorporate elements of punk, pop, and neo-gothic aesthetics, drawing on his four decades of experience in the fashion industry.
