Cultural festivals announced for Greece and Cyprus in September 2026

The 19th Animasyros International Animation Festival will take place in Syros, Greece, from September 21 to 27, 2026. This year’s edition honors the 200th anniversary of Hermoupolis, celebrating the city’s founding in 1826. The program includes seven competitive categories, an industry market, and educational workshops. Ireland has been named the festival’s guest country, featuring a dedicated tribute to Irish animation in collaboration with Animation Ireland and Culture Ireland.

Meanwhile, the 21st Cyprus International Film Festival (CYIFF) is scheduled for September 21 to 25, 2026, in Nicosia. The festival will feature an international competition and a special focus on Chinese cinema, including the world premiere of “La Croix (The Crossing)” by Hu Xueyang. A significant segment titled “1974 – Memory, Stories & People” will explore the historical memory of Cyprus through film, including the documentary “Queen of Cyprus” by Panikos Panagiotou.
