Cultural festivals celebrate Slovak and Transylvanian traditions in Romania

Several cultural festivals are taking place in Romania from September 18 to 20, highlighting regional traditions and heritage.

In Oradea, the Oradea Fortress is hosting the Slovak Culture Days. Organized by the Democratic Union of Slovaks in Romania in partnership with local authorities and the Slovak government, the event features Slovak folk music, dance, and gastronomy. The program includes a reception for the Slovak Constitution Day, a culinary competition focused on traditional dumplings and pastries, and a photography exhibition titled ‘The Festival of Slovaks from Valea Cerului’.

Simultaneously, the Târgu Mureș Fortress is hosting the 4th edition of the Transylvanian Crafts Celebration. The event features over 135 artisans from at least 15 different regions, including Szeklerland, Moldavia, and Bihor. This year’s theme focuses on ceramics and clay, while also commemorating the centenary of ethnographer Zoltán Kallós. The festival includes 56 programs, such as live demonstrations of nearly 30 traditional crafts, including pottery, weaving, and embroidery.
