Portugal hosts various cultural and sporting events in late September

Various cultural, sporting, and linguistic events are taking place across Portugal in late September.

As part of the European Week of Sport, municipalities like Mafra are offering free outdoor activities including surfing, canoeing, and hiking to promote active lifestyles.

To mark the European Day of Languages, several celebrations are scheduled. Vila Real de Santo António is hosting the III Feira das Línguas to celebrate linguistic diversity and the 40th anniversary of Portugal and Spain's accession to the European Communities. In Picote, the IV Festa das Línguas will focus on linguistic policies and the preservation of minority languages like Mirandese.

Historical and multicultural festivals are also prominent. Palmela and Marvila are hosting medieval fairs featuring historical reenactments and traditional crafts. Lousã is organizing a multicultural festival to celebrate community diversity through international gastronomy and music, while Amarante is hosting the Alameda das Tílias em Festa. Additionally, Tavira is holding an initiative to promote the environmental and landscape value of the Barrocais de Santa Catarina.
