Cultural heritage and festivals highlighted in Marche, Italy

Roccafluvione, a mountain municipality in the Val Fluvione of the Marche region, is home to about 1,800 residents and a landscape dotted with medieval castles, abbeys and archaeological sites. The area bears traces of pre‑Roman occupation, the influence of Farfa Abbey in the early Middle Ages and later integration into the free commune of Ascoli Piceno.

In the nearby town of Fermo, Matteo Canullo, 39, serves as priore of the Molini Girola contrada. Since 2024 he has led the green‑and‑sky colors of the district, whose motto “Jus et Panem” reflects historic water‑mill traditions along the Tenna River. The contrada, winner of the Palio 2025, is preparing celebrations for the Assumption of Mary on 12‑13 August, alongside events such as its Spring Beer Festival and the publication of a commemorative volume.
