Italian heritage sites and festivals

In late July 2026 Italy’s cultural calendar saw a wave of regional highlights and a national push to extend opening hours at flagship monuments. On 23 July the Marche region promoted Roccafluvione’s medieval sites and a spring beer festival, while on 24 July Alessandria’s province advertised tours of Forte di Gavi and the Roman ruins of Libarna alongside weekend fairs.

From 1 August the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and the municipality of Milan instituted evening access for the Colosseum (Fridays and Saturdays, 19:45‑23:30), the Pantheon (daily, 19:00‑23:00, closed Thursdays) and Castello Sforzesco (daily, 17:30‑19:30). The pilot aims to disperse crowds, mitigate heat‑related discomfort and align visits with working‑day schedules. Ticket prices for the Roman sites stay unchanged; Castello Sforzesco introduced a 50 % discount, cutting full‑price tickets from €10 to €5.

Officials reaffirmed the schedule on 26 July, emphasizing unchanged pricing for the Colosseum and Pantheon and the discounted rate for Castello Sforzesco. Ministers Alessandro Giuli and Gianmarco Mazzi linked the extended hours to broader goals of cultural tourism growth and improved accessibility.

The same day, Ascoli Piceno’s Quintana festival continued its nightly bridge‑painting ritual, judged by a new expert jury. These coordinated actions illustrate Italy’s nationwide effort to promote heritage sites and seasonal festivals throughout the summer and into August.
