Rio de Janeiro hosts cultural performances addressing racial violence and social identity

Several cultural productions are scheduled in Rio de Janeiro, focusing on historical and social reflections. The play “Desfazenda – Me Enterrem Fora Desse Lugar,” directed by Roberta Estrela D’Alva, will be presented at CAIXA Cultural Rio de Janeiro from November 5 to 15. Inspired by the documentary “Menino 23,” the performance explores the history of Black children subjected to slavery in the 1930s and discusses the persistence of racial violence in Brazil.

Additionally, the musical program Cena Musical on TV Brasil will feature an exclusive performance by sambista Caxtrinho. Recorded at the BNDES Cultural Space, the show “Queda Livre” presents an experimental take on samba, reflecting the daily life and identity of the Baixada Fluminense region. The performance includes social critiques and contemporary arrangements.

In Duque de Caxias, the free play “Neutralizados” will debut at Teatro Firjan SESI Caxias on November 6. Created by artists from the Maré community, the production examines the impact of military occupation in favelas and questions public security policies while celebrating the cultural resilience of these territories.
