Culture Minister inaugurates Este Festival 2026 in Higüey

Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo inaugurated the Este Festival 2026 in Higüey, an event scheduled to take place from August 28 to 30 at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) campus. The festival aims to promote the art, culture, and identity of the six provinces in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic: El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Altagracia, La Romana, Monte Plata, and San Pedro de Macorís.

During the opening ceremony, Salcedo emphasized the festival's role in supporting the Ministry of Culture's policy of cultural decentralization by highlighting regional traditions and heritage. The event, dedicated to artisan Genaro “Cayuco” Reyes, includes artistic performances and showcases the gastronomic diversity of the participating provinces. In recognition of his commitment to Dominican culture, the municipality of Higüey presented Salcedo with the Coat of Arms of the Villa Salvaleón de Higüey.
