Cumalıkızık historical site to undergo preservation and infrastructure upgrades
A new cooperation protocol has been signed to preserve the historical integrity of Cumalıkızık, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Bursa, Turkey. The agreement involves Yıldırım Municipality, the Yıldırım District Governor's Office, and the Cumalıkızık Village Agricultural Development Cooperative.
The initiative aims to improve living conditions and manage tourism by establishing a new marketplace and an open parking lot. This reorganization is designed to eliminate irregular sales areas in the village streets and in front of historical structures, thereby highlighting the traditional identity of the streets and squares.
Under the plan, the new marketplace will be constructed by the municipality and later handed over to the cooperative for operation. This move is intended to provide a centralized location for local women and cooperative members to sell handmade goods and regional products in a manner consistent with the village's cultural heritage. The project focuses on technical infrastructure and superstructure improvements while ensuring all developments remain compatible with the existing historical environment.
