Cundinamarca environmental authorities launch conservation and water protection initiatives
The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) has implemented several environmental initiatives in Colombia to promote sustainability and conservation. In the municipality of Manta, conservation agreements were signed with local farming communities in Palmar Arriba, Manta Grande Arriba, and Quimbita. These agreements aim to foster coexistence between farmers and the Andean bear by providing tools for sustainable productive practices, such as meadow renewal, the installation of water troughs, and the construction of corrals to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
Additionally, the CAR is promoting a Climate Preparation Route Strategy to encourage efficient water use amidst climate variability and El Niño effects. The authority is urging citizens to evaluate their water footprint—categorized into blue, green, and grey water—to reduce pressure on regional aquatic ecosystems. The initiative highlights how domestic and industrial activities impact rivers and aquifers, emphasizing the need for habit changes to protect local water sources.
