Geely E2 and other EVs earn five-star safety ratings under new 2026 protocols

Several electric vehicle models have achieved five-star safety ratings under the newly implemented 2026 protocols from Euro NCAP and ANCAP. These updated standards feature more rigorous requirements across four key areas: safe driving, crash avoidance, crash protection, and post-crash safety.

Chinese manufacturers saw significant success, with the Geely E2 (also known as the EX2), Leapmotor B05, and GAC Aion UT all securing the maximum five-star rating. The Geely E2 was noted for its high scores in safe driving and post-crash safety, while the Leapmotor B05 performed exceptionally well in crash protection. The Aion UT also demonstrated strong performance, particularly in occupant protection.

The Cupra Raval achieved five stars as well, though reports indicate this rating often requires the inclusion of an optional Safety Pack to meet the higher active safety thresholds. The new testing regime places greater emphasis on intelligent driver assistance systems, occupant monitoring, and real-world driving scenarios, marking a shift toward more comprehensive electronic and structural safety evaluations.
