Curitiba councilman Lórens Nogueira faces potential mandate revocation

The Curitiba Municipal Chamber is set to vote on Thursday regarding the potential removal of councilman Lórens Nogueira from office. The decision follows a recommendation from an ethics committee to revoke his mandate due to allegations of “rachadinha,” a practice involving the illegal collection of portions of employees' salaries.

The investigation, supported by the Public Ministry of Paraná (MPPR), alleges that the practice involved a staff member who held a commission position at the Paraná Transit Department (Detran-PR). While the ethics committee rejected all preliminary arguments from the defense, Nogueira’s legal team denies all accusations.

To confirm the loss of mandate, a two-thirds majority vote is required, meaning at least 26 of the 38 council members must vote in favor. If this threshold is not met, the process will be archived.
