Curitiba councilman Lórens Nogueira faces suspension and mandate revocation

A disciplinary commission of the Curitiba City Council has unanimously approved a report recommending the revocation of councilman Lórens Nogueira’s mandate. The recommendation follows allegations of ‘rachadinha’, a practice involving the illegal collection of portions of public employees' salaries.

Simultaneously, the judiciary has ordered a 90-day precautionary suspension of Nogueira from his public office. The court decision also prohibits him from entering the City Council premises or contacting individuals involved in the investigation. The legal action stems from an operation by the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), which previously seized R$ 118,000 in cash during search and seizure warrants.

Nogueira’s defense denies the allegations, claiming that cash payments observed in video footage were related to a personal loan. The case now moves to the full City Council plenary, where at least two-thirds of the members (26 out of 38) must vote in favor to finalize the removal from office.
