Curitiba sees business growth and major urban revitalization projects

Curitiba is undergoing significant economic and urban transformations. Data from the Municipal Secretariat of Planning, Finance, and Budget shows a 34% increase in new business permits from January to July 2026 compared to the previous year, averaging ten new companies per hour. The growth is led by the service sector, which saw a 34% rise, and the retail sector, which grew by 29%.

To support urban revitalization, the City of Curitiba has partnered with Caixa Econômica Federal for the ‘Curitiba de Volta ao Centro’ program. This partnership involves a R$ 30 million subsidy fund to assist in the retrofit of buildings, restoration of historic properties, and the creation of new businesses and housing in the central region. The initiative has attracted 47 proposals, representing an expected R$ 268 million in total investments.

Simultaneously, major infrastructure projects are underway to improve pedestrian mobility and urban living. Works have begun on a new pedestrian walkway on Rua Conselheiro Laurindo to connect Praça Santos Andrade and Teatro Guaíra. Additionally, the Avenida Sete de Setembro is being transformed into a pedestrian area at Praça Eufrásio Correia, integrating new sidewalks and bike lanes as part of the BRT Leste-Oeste project.
