Curitiba's Olhar de Cinema Festival Launches 15th Edition

The 15th edition of the Olhar de Cinema – Festival Internacional de Curitiba opened on Thursday, 4 June, and will run until 13 June. More than 70 Brazilian and international productions are being screened at venues such as the Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Ópera de Arame, Cine Passeio, the Cinemateca and the Teatro da Vila. The program includes Competitive Brazilian and International sections, New Perspectives, regional showcases and special screenings, with juried awards for Best Film, Direction, Screenplay and Acting, as well as audience prizes.

Among the lineup, the Alagoas‑made feature "Olhe Para Mim" by director Rafhael Barbosa had its world premiere. The film follows a queer protagonist coping with his mother’s disappearance and draws on regional myths. It was shot mainly in Penedo and other locations in the Alagoas sertão, and is described as the "first fiction film produced in Alagoas with a public call," marking a milestone for the state's cinema.
