Curro Vázquez honored with plaque at Las Ventas bullring
Retired bullfighter Curro Vázquez was recognized by the Community of Madrid with a permanent tile plaque in the Las Ventas bullring on 15 May, San Isidro Day. The plaque, installed in the lower tier of the arena, bestows the honorary title “torero de Madrid” and joins the works of other famed matadors.
The ceremony, attended by regional officials including Environment, Agriculture and Interior minister Carlos Novillo, Plaza 1 president Rafael García Garrido, and various bull‑fighting figures, also featured the presentation of the head of a bull Vázquez fought on 12 October and highlighted his receipt of the National Bullfighting Prize for 2026.
The tribute marks a high‑profile acknowledgment of Vázquez’s more than 80 passeillos and his long career in one of the world’s most famous bullrings.
