Cusco school delegation returned from Bolivia, placed under 21‑day quarantine over measles risk

A delegation from the Ciencias school in Cusco, comprising 147 students, teachers and parents, was stranded in Bolivia for several days after road blockades prevented their return. The group, which had traveled to Bolivia to perform, was eventually flown back on a humanitarian flight by the Bolivian Air Force that landed in Juliaca. They arrived at the Cusco terrestrial terminal, where family members and local authorities welcomed them.

Because Bolivia is experiencing an uncontrolled measles outbreak, health officials in Cusco imposed a mandatory 21‑day quarantine on the entire delegation. Alex Jaramillo, director of Geresa Cusco, explained that the period matches the maximum incubation window for measles and that the children will continue lessons via virtual classes during isolation. The delegation reported no health issues and thanked the Bolivian government and consulate for assistance during their stay in Potosí, Oruro and La Paz.
