Cutter Gauthier and Anaheim Ducks face contract impasse

Contract negotiations between Cutter Gauthier and the Anaheim Ducks remain unresolved as training camp approaches. Reports indicate a significant gap between the player's expectations and the team's financial flexibility.

Gauthier's camp is reportedly seeking a long-term deal with an annual salary between $14 million and $16 million. However, the Ducks' current salary cap constraints make such a commitment difficult without compromising roster depth. Previous reports noted that Gauthier rejected an offer of $13 million over four years.

To facilitate a deal, Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek may need to perform “roster surgery” to create additional cap space. This could involve trading players to free up funds. Analysts suggest the impasse might result in a short-term “bridge contract,” allowing the player to continue proving his value while delaying a major long-term financial commitment for the organization.
