Cyber insurance claims face risks from inadequate training documentation

Cyber insurance providers are increasingly tightening coverage definitions and demanding stricter adherence to security standards. Companies face the risk of denied claims or significantly higher renewal costs if they cannot provide seamless documentation of completed security awareness training (SAT).

A 2025 report from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners indicates that in the United States, nearly three times as many claims were closed without payment as were paid out. This trend highlights a shift where insurers focus on documentation gaps; even if a security program exists, a failure to prove that every employee completed the training can invalidate a claim.

Many organizations struggle with administrative hurdles because training data is often siloed between specialized security platforms and broader Learning Management Systems (LMS). Relying on manual data reconciliation, such as exporting CSV files to match employee IDs, is error-prone and creates liability risks during audits or insurance investigations.
