Cybersecurity alert: Fake streaming sites scam fans of The Odyssey

Cybersecurity researchers at Kaspersky have identified a global scam involving fraudulent streaming websites targeting fans of Christopher Nolan’s film, ‘The Odyssey’. The websites promise free access to the movie, often offering dubbed versions or multi-device compatibility to mimic legitimate services.

When users attempt to play the film, a fake video player prompts them to register. The registration process begins with basic information like names and email addresses, but eventually requests passwords and banking details under the guise of activating a ‘free trial’. This tactic is designed for credential theft and financial fraud.

The campaign is being deployed in multiple languages to target audiences across various countries. Experts advise consumers to use only official services to avoid potential financial loss and data theft, noting that the scam exploits the high popularity of the film, which has already surpassed $1 billion at the box office.
