Multiple European organizations targeted by cyberattacks
Several major institutions across Europe have reported significant data breaches following recent cyberattacks.
In Germany, the Charité university hospital in Berlin experienced a breach affecting approximately 140,000 individuals, including staff, students, and contact form users. While the hospital stated that patient care was not disrupted and no sensitive health data was stolen, names and email addresses were compromised. Separately, the city of Eichstätt reported that hackers stole roughly 1.4 terabytes of data through a software provider vulnerability, potentially exposing personal information of citizens.
In France, the energy provider Engie confirmed a data leak affecting French customers. The breach originated from an external commercial tool used by partners, exposing names, addresses, emails, and contract references, though banking details remained secure.
In Switzerland, the Canton of Vaud reported a data theft from an IT support platform used by secondary schools. The breach involved the personal details of approximately 38,000 students and 3,500 teachers. Authorities warned of increased phishing risks, noting that while passwords and grades were not compromised, contact information and support request contents were copied.
