Cybersecurity investment rises amid critical infrastructure risks

Recent industry reports highlight growing vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure and a corresponding surge in cybersecurity spending. A Palo Alto Networks report indicates that 60% of critical infrastructure organizations experienced significant security breaches in the past year, with half of those reporting physical safety concerns. Key challenges include a lack of real-time visibility into operational technology (OT) networks, which affects 68% of organizations, and the presence of unpatchable legacy systems.

Simultaneously, PwC’s Global Digital Trust Insights Survey shows that 84% of security and finance executives expect cybersecurity budgets to rise. This investment is largely driven by the emergence of artificial intelligence; 58% of security leaders identify AI as a top budget priority. While AI presents new risks, with 50% of leaders identifying attacks on AI systems as a primary concern, many organizations remain under-prepared, with only 39% maintaining formalized operational continuity plans specifically addressing cyber risks.
