AI and cloud adoption impact on cybersecurity

Overview

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence and cloud-based architectures is fundamentally reshaping enterprise networking and cybersecurity requirements. As organizations adopt multi-cloud environments and distribute workloads across various hyperscalers and on-premises systems, traditional perimeter-based security models are becoming insufficient.

This technological shift has moved the primary security focus from network boundaries toward identity and access management (IAM). The rise of Zero Trust principles and identity threat detection and response (ITDR) tools reflects the need to combat unauthorized use of authorized access.

Simultaneously, the increasing reliance on Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for cloud services and microservices introduces new vulnerabilities. While AI tools drive operational efficiency and data processing, the widespread use of APIs by nearly half of all web applications creates risks such as insufficient encryption, weak authentication, and business logic flaws. IT professionals are increasingly focused on addressing bot attacks, DDoS threats, and the necessity for stronger content inspection and authentication mechanisms.
