Cybersecurity threats rise amid growing AI adoption in Colombia and Spain

Cybersecurity reports highlight a significant rise in digital threats and the growing role of artificial intelligence in both attacks and corporate defense. In Colombia, Trellix reported 1.3 million malicious activity detections between Q4 2025 and Q1 2026, marking a 36% increase from the previous semester. Over half of these incidents involved malicious files. Attackers are increasingly using generative AI to automate reconnaissance, create personalized phishing campaigns, and manipulate digital identities, reducing the technical barriers for complex software offensives.

In Spain, the adoption of AI is widespread, with 86% of companies exploring or developing internal tools based on large language models (LLMs), and 13% having already integrated them into workflows. This shift has prompted a global trend where 41% of companies are increasing information security investments. Spanish businesses identified massive malware attacks (22%), software vulnerability exploitation (21%), and phishing (20%) as their primary concerns, while 8% specifically noted AI-related vulnerabilities. Risks also stem from internal factors, such as employees using third-party AI tools without oversight.
