Cybersecurity vulnerabilities rise in Indonesia amid AI-driven attacks

Indonesian companies are facing significant vulnerabilities due to reactive cybersecurity strategies. Most businesses currently rely on traditional endpoint detection that only responds after a suspicious file has already executed within a network, leaving them exposed to modern threats.

Cybercriminals are increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to automate the identification of system weaknesses and launch massive, coordinated attacks. Data from AwanPintar.id indicates that Indonesia experienced an average of 16 cyberattacks per second during the first half of 2026.

The financial impact of digital crime is substantial; the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) reported that digital scams resulted in losses of up to Rp 9.1 trillion between November 2024 and January 2026. Experts suggest that to combat AI-driven threats, corporations must shift from passive, manual defense models to more proactive technological strategies.
