Cycladic Biennale 2026 explores memory and culture in Naxos

The inaugural Cycladic Biennale, titled ‘What Re-mains’, is currently taking place in Naxos, Greece, running through September 18, 2026. As the first international contemporary art biennale held in a Greek island complex, the event aims to become a landmark for artistic research in the Aegean.

Artistic director and chief curator Konstantinos Spyropoulos describes the project as an investigation into memory, cultural decentralization, and the relationship between art and local society. The exhibition features 66 participants, including artists and collectives from Greece and abroad, utilizing the island's landscape, architecture, and history as active elements of the work.

The Biennale is hosted across several locations in Naxos, including the former Ursuline School in Chora Castle, the Naxos and Small Cyclades Town Hall, the Iakovos Kampanellis Theatre Museum, and Katharsis Retreat. The program includes various parallel activities such as lectures, workshops, film screenings, and musical performances designed to connect contemporary creation with the island's social reality.
