Cycling infrastructure updates: damage in Trebišov and new path in Krkonoše
Recent developments in regional cycling infrastructure highlight both successful completions and significant construction failures.
In Trebišov, Slovakia, a new three-kilometer asphalt cycle path connecting Trebišov to Zemplínsky Hradišť has suffered extensive damage only one year after its opening. Large cracks have appeared across most of the route, with one hole reaching a depth of 86 centimeters. The municipality is currently filling dangerous areas as a temporary measure while preparing documentation for an expert assessment and a formal complaint against the contractor, Betpres, who denies any wrongdoing.
In contrast, a new 1.6-kilometer cycle path has been completed in the Krkonoše region, connecting Jilemnice and Martinice in the Czech Republic. The project, costing over 40 million CZK, was funded largely through subsidies. The new path provides a safe alternative to a Class II road for cyclists and pedestrians. While the official opening is scheduled for next week, the path is already available for public use.
