Cycling World Championships: Quintana announces retirement

National cycling rosters have been announced for the upcoming World Championships in Montreal. Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana has confirmed that the road race on September 27 will be his final professional competition. After missing selection for the Movistar team for La Vuelta, the 36-year-old will instead represent Colombia in his seventh World Championship appearance.

Quintana will compete alongside teammates Egan Bernal, Santiago Buitrago, Sergio Higuita, Harold Tejada, Brandon Rivera, and Walter Vargas. The Colombian squad also includes representatives for the individual time trial on September 20.

Spain has also finalized its selections, led by Enric Mas and Juan Ayuso for the men's road race. The Spanish roster includes Carlos Verona, Iván Romeo, Raúl García Pierna, Marcel Camprubí, Igor Arrieta, and Markel Beloki. For the time trial, Spain will field Iván Romeo and Pablo Castrillo. The women's road race team will feature Mavi Garcia, Paula Blasi, Usoa Ostolaza, Mireia Benito, Sara Martín, and Sandra Alonso.
