Cyclists to embark on 1,000 km journey from Vinci to Amboise

A group of five cyclists will embark on a cultural journey titled ‘Da Vinci ad Amboise – Un itinerario contemporaneo ispirato al viaggio di Leonardo’ from August 17 to August 27. Promoted by the Associazione Leonardo Da Vinci Heritage, the project commemorates the 510th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s 1516 journey to the court of King Francis I in France.

The group, led by Gianni Vinci—a descendant of the Da Vinci family and participant in international DNA research projects—will cycle approximately 1,000 kilometers. The route will traverse Italy, Switzerland, and France, symbolically connecting Vinci, the artist's birthplace, to Amboise, his final residence.

While the itinerary does not follow the exact historical path taken in 1516, it is designed to promote contemporary cycling mobility and celebrate the historical link between the two locations. The initiative aims to highlight the landscape and Leonardo's historical heritage through the sharing of stories, photographs, and videos documented during the trip.
