Leonardo da Vinci commemorative cycling journey
Overview
A group of five cyclists embarked on a 1,000-kilometer journey titled ‘Da Vinci ad Amboise – Un itinerario contemporaneo ispirato al viaggio di Leonardo’ to commemorate the 510th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s 1516 journey from Italy to the court of King Francis I in France.
Led by Gianni Vinci, the expedition began on August 17 in Vinci, Italy. The route traversed Northern Italy, the Aosta Valley, Switzerland, and several French regions, including Burgundy and the Morvan. The project, promoted by the Associazione Leonardo Da Vinci Heritage, aimed to promote contemporary cycling mobility and celebrate the historical link between Leonardo’s birthplace and his final residence.
The journey concluded on August 27 at the Château du Clos Lucé in the Loire Valley. The cyclists were welcomed at their destination by Jacques de Tarragon, director of Clos Lucé, and members of the Vinci-Amboise twinning committee.
