Cyclone Arnab intensifies into very severe storm ahead of Andhra Pradesh landfall FAST-MOVING
Cyclone Arnab has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal and is projected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam on the morning of October 28, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts maximum sustained wind speeds of 115–125 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 140 kmph.
Authorities in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have implemented extensive emergency measures. In Andhra Pradesh, the state government has released ₹27 crore for relief operations across 20 districts. Evacuations of low-lying areas are underway, beaches have been closed, and coastal road traffic is expected to be suspended. In Odisha, schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres in several southern districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput, will remain closed on October 28 and 29.
To protect vulnerable populations, Odisha plans to relocate over 3,000 pregnant women to safer healthcare facilities. Disaster response teams, including the NDRF, SDRF, and personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, have been deployed or placed on standby. Additionally, 53 train services have been cancelled by the South Coast Railway Zone to ensure passenger safety during the storm's passage.
