Cyclosporiasis Cases Increase in Ohio’s Hamilton County and Missouri’s Boone County

Hamilton County, Ohio, health officials announced 16 cyclosporiasis cases as of Monday—10 confirmed, one probable and five suspected—up from 13 the previous week. They noted a statistically significant rise in gastrointestinal‑illness visits, with more than 40 people seeking treatment. Statewide Ohio totals 364 cases and 46 hospitalizations, while the CDC reports 843 cases and 86 hospitalizations across 31 states, with no deaths recorded.

In Boone County, Missouri, nine cases were reported this week, and five patients (four residents) were hospitalized. Local health departments are working with the state Department of Health to determine whether the increase is linked to the national outbreak, and initial investigations suggest local transmission. The county’s highest five‑year total was ten cases in 2023. Officials in both locations advise thorough washing of produce and proper food handling to reduce risk.
