Cyprus airports see only 1% drop in summer passenger traffic

During the summer peak, Cyprus' two main airports, Larnaca and Paphos, handled more than 50,000 passengers each day. In July, passenger numbers fell by just 1% compared with the same month last year, and August is expected to remain at a similar level. Hermes Airports' Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communications, Maria Kouroupi, said the negative image that developed in March‑April has largely been contained.

The average daily flight schedule includes about 230 flights at Larnaca and 95 at Paphos. Sensors at the checkpoints show that 95% of passengers clear passport control in under 13 minutes, while security screening takes less than three minutes for the same share. A new direct connection to Madrid is scheduled to start in September, further boosting traffic.

Kouroupi noted that, despite geopolitical tensions and reduced slots from some airlines, the overall performance remains encouraging, although the 2024 figures are unlikely to match last year's peak levels.
