Cyprus and Greece Fires Controlled After Local Outbreaks

In Paralimni, Cyprus, a fire ignited on the balcony of a second‑floor apartment and spread to the interior of that unit and to a ground‑floor flat, causing extensive damage to two apartments. All residents were evacuated safely; a passerby forced the entry door, allowing a woman and her children to escape before firefighters arrived. Four fire engines responded, and an ambulance attended the scene, though no hospitalizations were required. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

On the Greek island of Kalymnos, a blaze broke out in the Botynon area near the monastery of Agios Savvas. Prompt action by ground crews and a fire‑helicopter carrying seven firefighters contained the fire before it could reach denser vegetation. The mayor said the situation is now under control, with teams remaining for preventive monitoring.
