Cyprus and Greece seek renewed talks while Israel proposes broader security axis

At the Herzliya Conference, Amir Baram, deputy chief‑of‑staff of Israel’s defence ministry, said an emerging security and economic axis should stretch from India and the United Arab Emirates to Greece and Cyprus. He warned that the Iranian threat requires expanded regional partnerships and noted that the plan would complement, not replace, Israel’s strategic relationship with the United States.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides told reporters that the diplomatic effort to resolve the Cyprus dispute is not frozen. He highlighted the upcoming visit of the UN Secretary‑General’s personal envoy to Brussels on 13 July and said the aim is to restart negotiations through an expanded conference involving the two Cypriot communities, the guarantor powers and the United Nations. The president linked progress on Cyprus talks to broader Euro‑Turkish relations and to regional stability.
