India-Israel Nexus expands with FTA talks
Entities: World Trade Organization · Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India) · Shri Rajesh Agarwal · Israel · India
Overview
The India × Israel Nexus platform, launched in February 2026, continues to link leaders, firms and cultural figures across defence, AI, cybersecurity and agriculture. At the Herzliya Conference the initiative was positioned alongside the US‑Israel strategic partnership, and Cyprus’s president linked it to broader regional stability talks.
The bilateral investment agreement that entered into force on 4 July 2026 provides modern protections for Indian investors and covers portfolio assets, with an independent arbitration mechanism and anti‑corruption clauses.
At the Energy Corridors Summit 2026 in Athens, Israeli Ambassador Noam Katz announced a multi‑year Greece‑Israel‑Cyprus action plan that references the India‑Middle East‑Europe Economic Corridor as a key supply‑chain route.
In late July 2026 India and Israel concluded the second round of FTA negotiations in New Delhi (20‑23 July), expanding discussions to include sanitary‑phytosanitary measures and underscoring opportunities in technology, pharmaceuticals, defence and agriculture.
During the same month India completed its eighth WTO Trade Policy Review. Seventy‑eight members submitted 1,094 written questions on production‑linked incentive schemes, quality‑control orders, trade remedies and SPS issues. Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agarwal affirmed that India’s policies remain WTO‑consistent while supporting developmental goals, highlighting agricultural tariff protections, industrial tariffs that bolster supply‑chain resilience, acceptance of the WTO fisheries‑subsidies agreement and reforms in customs, digital trade infrastructure and MSME integration.
These steps reinforce the economic strand of the India‑Israel Nexus, deepening bilateral trade, investment and coordination on multilateral trade rules.
