Cyprus anti‑narcotics service seizes cocaine, cannabis, 60 kg poppy seeds

The Service for the Suppression of Narcotics (ΥΚΑΝ) in Cyprus conducted coordinated raids in June 2026 targeting drug trafficking networks across the island. In the districts of Larnaca and Limassol, officers arrested three individuals and seized €19,960 in cash, 20 g of cannabis, hand‑rolled cannabis cigarettes, resin, and other substances. A second operation in Limassol detained two men aged 22 and 28, confiscating €3,920, 23 g of cocaine, 140 g of cannabis, and an additional bag containing 45 g of cocaine.

A nationwide crackdown also dismantled a large poppy‑seed trafficking ring, resulting in 21 arrests and the seizure of roughly 60 kg of Papaver somniferum (opium poppy). Two additional suspects remain at large, and the majority of the 17 related cases have been forwarded to the criminal courts for trial. ΥΚΑΝ emphasized its continued focus on preventing drug importation and protecting the public, especially young people, from the harms of substance abuse.
