Cyprus community marks 52 years since 1974 Turkish invasion
The Cyprus Peace Council issued a statement on the 52nd anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, recalling the thousands killed, missing and displaced by the July 20, 1974 events and reaffirming its commitment to a bi‑communal, bi‑zonal federation as a solution under United Nations resolutions.
In Australia, the Cyprus Community of the Northern Territory gathered in Darwin for a memorial service and wreath‑laying ceremony. Delegates included Deputy High Commissioner Nikolaos Varellas, Federal MP Luke Gosling and other community leaders, who paid tribute to the victims and emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the invasion for future generations.
