Cyprus courts detain driver and three suspects in separate crime investigations
In Nicosia, a 56‑year‑old man was arrested after his vehicle, driving from the buffer zone, crashed into a police patrol car. Police said he was facilitating illegal entry, transit and stay of third‑country nationals. The car carried two women (32 and 29) and two minors (10 and 16), who were taken to a reception centre in Kokkinotrimithia. The driver was remanded for six days pending further investigation.
On the same day, the Nicosia district court ordered the detention of three additional suspects, including a serving police officer, on accusations of involvement in an organised crime syndicate. Authorities allege money‑laundering and tax‑evasion activities linked to the group. Two suspects, aged 49 and 50, received seven‑day detention orders while the third remains in custody as the investigation continues.
